    Hello,

    I just joined here.

I grew up in Switzerland where I learned Italian French German and English.

Now I live in the states and I decided to pick up Japanese. I would like to move there one day.

I am taking already some classes at an evening school and I am following a Japanese through anime online class. But I just want to know more.

I hope this website will help me in the goal of becoming fluent in Japanese.

    Cheers

    Andrea

Andrea – I am impressed by the languages you’ve already learned. What made you choose Japanese as your next language?

    Good luck with your studies!

    Hello!

    Thanks Cassandra.

I have chosen Japanese because it was looking fascinating, and new. Learning “West European” languages was not much fun, because I had to, and also because they are too similar. I wanted to learn something different. At one point (during college) I was undecided between Japanese and Russian. But my appreciation for the Japanese culture outgrew Russian by a lot.

Hopefully I will become decent in Japanese soon :)

    Cheers

Welcome, and Russian is really hard to learn I hear so your probably better off with the Japanese. Picking between the two is like picking between Vodka and Sake.

Speaking of Sake (de-railed thread  +1000pts), I’ve heard that 20% is a common percentage in Japan. Is this true? The only place I have found 20% in the UK is ‘Oxford Wines’ in Tetbury, everything else is 14%. Any higher and it would be taxed as a spirit upon import, which could explain it…
