I’ve been uh… delaying this introduction thing for a while (mixture of awkwardness and working on stuff) but since I’m up to the “Social Learning” chapter of Season 4 I figured I might as well actually say something. TextFugu has been an amazing learning tool so far, so why not?
My name is James. I live in the suburbs of Sydney, Australia. Summer has been (mostly) lenient this time around and we haven’t had too many crazily hot days; personally, I prefer either overcast days or light rain (heavy rain is fine IF I’m indoors, for obvious reasons).
I’m learning Japanese for a few reasons:
1.) I want to be able to speak a language other than English. Partly because it’s a skill, but also because I really like linguistics and the psychology of language in general. It’s been really interesting learning how Japanese comes together so far, and I’m enjoying learning more.
2.) I’d like to be able to speak to people in another language. Hold conversations, share ideas; I find the idea really wonderful.
3.) I want to be able to understand things like music, anime, and games without subtitles or online lyrics. There are (for example) visual novels which I’ve only been able to enjoy thanks to fan translations, and there are stories I’m looking forward to which would require me to wait two or three evers. Therefore, if I can learn a language as a life skill & social thing and read a bunch of things then, frankly, what am I waiting for?
So yeah, there you have me. Nice to meet you!
(Once again, kudos to the developers of the site for all their great work.)
