Oh boy. I wasn’t expecting this to be a step. I work with a person who moved here to work from Japan, and he had some fun writing peoples names in Katakana on their white boards with the romaji spellings under the characters. I chose my username based on that, but now it’s kind of embarrassing. Edit – I guess it doesn’t show the username! hah! Two points for double-embarassment!
Anywho… I’m doing this all the way, and there’s no stopping me – so here I go:
I want to be able to converse with more people, and I chose Japanese now because I find the language and the culture very interesting. I probably will not stop at Japanese because I want to be able to talk to many people in languages they are comfortable with. The reason is because I enjoy helping people, and I don’t want to limit the people I can help. I also hope to teach my kids a second language while they learn english, or shortly after.
I hope to become a welcome member of the community and look forward to interactions here.

AnonymousWelcome to Textfugu!
June 14, 2012 at 10:44 pm #31856Welcome and good luck with your learning! Do you speak any other languages already (other than English)?
June 15, 2012 at 8:39 am #31872Hi Tyler, welcome to TextFugu! Good luck with your studies :)
June 15, 2012 at 10:04 am #31876Thank you for the welcomes!
I do not currently speak any other language fluently. I had two unfruitful years of French many years ago, and I’m afraid I’ve forgotten most of what I’ve learned, as I never used it. I’m certain that will not be the case with Japanese, as I am already infatuated with many things about the culture and language. My next choice will likely be Something that uses Cyrillic characters, or Korean.

June 16, 2012 at 4:41 am #31883I hope you succeed then! I speak Danish as my first language and I have spent many years learning and improving my English. If you want a tip, what I have experienced as the only way to actually learn it properly: Use the language and use it a lot. Preferably every day. Oh, yea.. And patience. Lots and lots of patience. :)
I guess it’s kinda self-evident, but sadly a lot of people seem to forget it. -
