    Hello all!
My name is Gordon. 17 years old and high school student. I am already taking Japanese at school but I’d like to take it a step further. Especially with kanji and vocabulary. I’d judge my skill level as somewhere between beginner and intermediate. I know my hiragana and katakana, plain form, and te form. Kanji is taught the traditional way here :(
I have been to Japan twice. The second time was part of an exchange program and I LOVED IT. Hopefully I get the chance to live in Japan for a few years. Or even have a Japanese girlfriend ;)
I love Japan for its culture and people; more-so than music and manga. If anyone can find me a Japanese band like Radiohead or Arcade Fire, that would be great :)

For a second, I really thought you mean that Radiohead and Arcade Fire were Japanese bands. Anybody else thought the same?

Hi Gordon, welcome to the forums!

That sucks that you have to learn Kanji the crappy way… maybe go through RTK and Textfugu kanji lessons on the side to give yourself an edge :P

By the way… SO jealous that you’ve been to Japan twice! It’s a distant dream of mine…. one day!! Bet it was amazing!

Heya Gordon, welcome to TextFugu. I am, unfortunately, unfamiliar with alt Japanese bands, but let us know if you find anything!

    Good luck with your studies!

I should add, we don’t use textbooks in class. Everything is off the teacher’s notes. Because of that, I got spotty knowledge in Textfugu seasons 5 and 6. {Which is great! :)]
OH and “Bump of Chicken” is quite an interesting Japanese band. Nothing too funky.

Hello! Great to see another Canadian here :)

Doesn’t the teacher give handouts every class for notes or assignments? Every high school around here (SW Ontario) either has text books or leaflets for lessons. If I remember right one of the schools here uses the same text book for German that the college uses, but it was a few years ago I saw that and college/university tend to update every few years so…

Most of the colleges here also offer (paid) exchange programs if you wanted to try and add another trip to Japan (or two) in there ;)
