My name is Elisabeth. I just subscribed after finishing the first season. Probably I’m not a typical member of your target group: I was born in the Netherlands but a live since a long time in Italy. My age is 68.
I study japanese for cultural, linguistic and personal reasons.
I think your method in Textfugu and Wanikani works very well. Said by a retired linguist (sorry, sorry) is a big compliment. Even if I have sometimes problems with all the figures you mention in your mnemonics, because I don’t know them.Welcome Elisabeth! I’m also new here. :D

Welcome, all! I suspect I’m rather over the median age myself, but I’m not… quite in my sixties. =P
But yeah, some of Koichi’s mnemonics are a bit odd. Think the trick is to ignore them and come up with your own. =)
Yes, that’s what I do sometimes but it’s also nice to discover new things, even if you’re not really interessed in them. Long life learning!
