Brand new TextFugu subscriber here. I’m learning Japanese for three reasons:

1. I want to be able to read Japanese poetry, especially haiku and tanka.
2. My daughter is a manga and anime fanatic, and I’d like to be able to travel to Japan with her one day.
3. I love learning languages; it’s one of my major hobbies. I have a good command of English, German, and French, plus I’ve studied everything from Irish to Esperanto. (Not saying I’m fluent in any of those!) I’ve been a bit intimidated by Asian languages, but since I like the sound of Japanese and am interested in Japanese literature, it seemed like the obvious choice.

I’m looking forward to getting to know people here!
