I thought it was about time that I actually introduced myself, I’ve been a member for a few months but Koichi’s reminder to introduce myself at the end of Chapter 4 finally convinced me do it.
I’m Anthony and I’m 18 years old. I’ve been wanting to learn Japanese for a long time (basically my entire time in high school), but I never got the chance to do it. Now that I don’t have to worry about getting into any pesky Uni courses, I can finally give it the time it deserves (plus it’s one of my subjects now, so I have even more reasons to learn).
Though I wouldn’t say that using TextFugu is my first attempt at learning Japanese, it’s definitely my first attempt that I feel has a chance of going anywhere. I started learning some things in about Year 10 or 11 from my friend that did Japanese at another school, but her knowledge didn’t extend very far past “AはBです”. She did give me her old Japanese books, which were not very useful at all… (starting at the third book in a series, never really a good idea is it?)
So I’m super glad that this year I’m learning Japanese in about a million different ways (TextFugu, WaniKani, JP101, Uni), and it’s so much fun. My goal is to be competent enough in Japanese to survive there on exchange, a little more than a year from now, as well as to be able to watch some J-Drama without subtitles, and maybe even play some Japanese video games.
If you have any tips that you think might be useful, or if you’d just like to talk, I’d be more than willing to have a chat.
どうぞよろくおねがいします!
