I love language and learning languages–I’ve taught myself a little bit about a lot of them!  I’ve decided on Japanese as my “serious” course of language study (read: develop functionality in) for a few, related reasons.

For one, a few years ago I discovered a love of the art and history of Japan, and would like to engage with the culture in its original form, on its level.  From this new, yet deep  affinity I’ve made the decision to go to Japan for an extended time to teach English.  When I arrive I’d like to be able to dive into their world as far as an eager and earnest curiosity can take me (obviously, within cultural bounds), and have language be as little of a barrier as possible.

A year from now I’d like to be moderately functional in the language.

Also, I do a lot of circus arts, so for the “passion list” from season 1 I had a lot of fun finding out the Japanese for my favorite hobbies–I do love my 一輪車   :)

Hi, nice to meet you and good luck.

That’s funny, the word for unicycle can also mean wheelbarrow XD. It’s been about 7 years since I stopped pursuing those hobbies, but I’m still a mean juggler, and I still walk on my hands from time to time (trying to learn how to balance on one hand actually). Unicycling though, I lost that skill with time for some reason. Have you ever been mountain unicycling?

Oh, yeah, I’ve been mountain unicycling.  I’ve got a mountain unicycle for, in fact. And a trials unicycle. And a commuter. And a giraffe. And a….I’ll stop now, haha.  I’ve got a unicycle for every occasion :)

I love juggling, though I didn’t put as much time into it, so I didn’t get quite as good.  I have a friend who used to do competitions with seven clubs–insane.

Trying to decide if I should go through the hassle of bringing my equipment to Japan when I go…
