Hey everyone – new TextFugu member here from NYC!

I’ve been interested in Japanese art and culture for a long time and have wanted to learn a second language for years now (not counting the high school Spanish that I slept through). Plus, two of my closest friends are Japanese, so I’ll have people to practice with!

Super excited to start. I’ve actually been studying kanji for the past year using Heisig’s RTK. I know, I know… it’s kinda backwards to start out using this method when I could’ve had a year of TextFugu under my belt. Anyway, I’m currently on Season 2 and loving it… which leads me to my first question:

Is the Anki file for Kanji Vocab 1 correct? (found in Season 2, Lesson 4)
I imported it into my vocab deck, but when I went to study the kanji vocab (which I just learned based off of 一, 二, 七 and 九) it immediately went into stuff that I haven’t learned yet like 二人. Also, the audio seems off… for example the Anki sound file for 二つ(ふたつ)seems different than the pronunciation found in the lesson here online.

Are things weird or am I just an idiot? Thanks!

    Welcome :)

Yeah, I was a little confused with that one as well. Sometimes it seems that vocab is misplaced (e.g. with some examples from the kanji pages). However, it’s only a few times – and after a few tries in Anki you will be able to remember it, anyway.

I am in season 3 right now. Together with the Anki decks, I’ve decided to use http://www.wanikani.com/ as well :)

    Things are weird. =P

That said, how are the recordings different?

Thanks for the responses! Yeah, totally weird!

I guess my ears aren’t used to hearing some vocab pronounced on sound files. When Koichi says ふたつ in the lesson I was able to easily follow, but on Anki ふたり sounds totally clipped… as if the the “fu” part was dropped off the beginning. Is this how it would normally be pronounced?

Anyway, I guess I just need more practice.
