Hello All! I was so excited to see the 50% off New Year’s special ^.^ So I became a forever, & ever, & ever member! WAY too good of a deal to pass up, so thank you Koichi for your generousity ;) Over the holiday break I emersed myself in the Hiragana lessons in Season 1. I am happy (and shocked) to say that I can know recognize, comprehend, and write (though sloppily) all 104 of those little guys. I’m no smarty pants, no photographic memory, just an average intelligence kinda gal; but textfugu has made it soooo easy. Why did I do it? One day…ONE DAY…I WILL VISIT JAPAN! And I think my experience would be way more enhanced if I could have a basic understanding of the language. Happy studies everyone!
January 3, 2012 at 8:27 pm #23511Hi kwag7 and welcome!!
I’m also in Ohio (originally from Canada but currently living in Ohio)! Whereabouts in Ohio are you if you don’t mind me asking? Im in Columbus and we finally got some snow lol ;)
And congrats on knowing all of hiragana!! You say you aren’t a smarty pants, but I think you should give yourself some more credit! That’s awesome! I’ve been studying for a couple months now and just recently feel like I know hiragana well enough to continue onward. Lol
Best of luck with your studies!! :D
January 4, 2012 at 4:24 pm #23605Hi Carlie! I’m not too far from you! I’m in Dayton. You guys got more snow than we did T.T I wish it would let loose a little more to pretty things up as not much is pretty this time of year. I would imagine it’s a big difference from Canada though!
Thank you for the kind words; I am proud of and excited about having hiragana down :D I just recently got my “passion” list down…I’m going for a cooking theme (hashi!!!!!)
I’m off to learn how to talk like Yoda :)
January 5, 2012 at 7:10 am #23697If you all haven’t been, Tensuke Market in Columbus is by far one of my favorite places to go in the entire State. Great food, awesome little giftshop, and as expected, most everyone will be speaking Japanese. :)
January 5, 2012 at 8:58 am #23704@Kane – I love Tensuke Market!! I live only 5 min from there :D
Akai Hana right next to it is a really nice restaurant too, although I haven’t been in awhile since it’s slightly on the expensive side. But there’s a little place to eat in Tensuke Market and their udon dishes are delicious! I highly recommend it.
EDIT: there also used to be a Japanese video game store right around the corner in that same complex that would import any game or movie you wanted, but i think they since have gone out of business :’(
EDIT 2: I should have known, Tensuke Market also has a pretty neat website! http://www.tensukemarket.com/

That’s awesome! I would go almost everyday to have lunch there when time allowed it, but unfortunatelly I moved down to South Carolina and haven’t been in nearly 4 months :(. Akai Hana though is amazing! I would do anything to be able to go there and pick up a few study books/children books; I regret not buying a few before moving!
Anyway, lucky you. I am envious ha-ha. Also, http://www.whiterabbitpress.com will literally order/gather/ship anything you want from Japan and send it to you for a fee + the cost of the item. I have used them twice so far and have been very pleased!
January 5, 2012 at 5:48 pm #23759Akai Hana was spectacular!!! So delish! I should go again soon (it’s an hour drive but it’s worth it!) I went to Tensuke Market as well. I got a cute little tamagoyaki pan. I want to learn Japanese better so I can understand the packaging of the food. There’s a little Japanese grocery very close to me and the same lady is ALWAYS working when I go in. I bring in a list of items written in romaji and she helps me find the stuff I need; she’s so nice! I’ll have to check out Tensuke Markets website and strategize my next visit.
