Hi! I’m Hao from Spain, and I just finished Season 1 for free and decided to get my membership.

I’ll explain my background a little bit~ I’m a Chinese Spanish 18 year old guy who is currently studying Chinese in Beijing during my “gap year” between high school and college.

I guess I should say why I want to study Japanese! I’ve always found Japanese pop culture interesting and have tried to learn the language but have quitted repeatedly. But spending half a year in an international environment I found the love of my life (sounds rainbow-y, I know) and guess what, she’s Japanese! This has settled it for me, I’m going to master Japanese in one way or another!

Now I would like some help with some questions I’ve got. As you can imagine, I’m already at a high level (considerably fluent) in Mandarin and I know that I have an advantage over non-Chinese speakers when learning Kanji. Does anybody know anything of Japanese learning resources that I can use as a Chinese user?

Also, to the people who have already finished all 8 seasons of Textfugu, at what level did you end up right after finishing them? I don’t know if there are CEFR levels for Japanese, but if there were, where would completing Textfugu put me at? I heard Textfugu is aimed toward beginners, but I really hope I will at least get to an intermediate level with Textfugu, because I really like the way it teaches!

Hope to get to know all of you guys, happy learning!

    Hao~

Hao – I think it’s sweet that you’ve found the love of your life. :)

I can’t answer your question about TextFugu completion levels because I learned from several different sources at the same time. My other prominent resource has been the JapanesePod101 podcasts and PDF lesson notes. Hopefully someone else will be able to give you a better idea of what level you’ll be when finishing TextFugu alone.

Welcome and good luck with your studies!

Hey Cassandra! May I ask you a couple of questions?

How long have you been studying Japanese and at what level are you now? Have you used other resources other than the ones you mentioned?

    Thank you!

    Hao~

I’ve been studying off and on for three years. I would label myself as Upper Beginner/Lower Intermediate.

    I’ve used:
    Japanesepod101.com
    Textfugu
Remembering the Kanji by James Heisig (book)
    Lang-8 for writing practice
Japanese podcasts downloaded from iTunes for listening practice
Downloaded raw Japanese dramas for watching/listening practice
Just recently I started emailing with a girl in Japan, doing a Japanese-English language exchange.
I’m (very slowly) reading blogs, children’s books, and a local newspaper in Japanese.
Many, many, many hours of Anki ;)
