Hey there,
I’m a 25 year old swedish fella’ who at the moment is preparing for my first semester as a computer science major.
I’ve always been interested in different cultures and languages as far as I can remember. The most fashinating ones in my opinion has always been (surprise, surprise!!) asian ones, Japanese in particular.
Learning the Japanese language has been one of my life goals for as long as I can remember. The only problem so far has been that I never seem to get to it, and when I do, I usually get way too motivated and I dive right in to it, trying to learn as much as possible, as fast as possible. As you might imagine that has led me nowhere since it’s the greatest recipe for failure ever.I found out about TF over a year ago when I had my latest “Learning Japanese”-Craze. This time around I have a bit of spare time to make sure I will do things right this time around. I’m gonna plan ahead accordingly and keep my head cool and not get carried away again.
One part of my plan is to actually make good use of the TF community, as well as creating good daily study-habits.I don’t really have a solid motivational reason for wanting to learn Japanese that could easily be explained in a scentence or two. But what I do know is that I’ve been to Japan once, for a month, and feel that I could’ve gotten more out of it if I had known some Japanese. As well as I have some old friends from Japan that doesn’t know much english. It would be great to be able to reconnect with them again.
I also play go/weiqi/baduk, an asian board game that you can google if you wanna know more about. And there isn’t really a lot of great learning material for the game in english compared to Japanese. It would be nice to be able to get some out of the recsources they have as well.
Not to mention that I wouldn’t mind to live/work/study in Japan for period of a year or even more sometime in the future, should the oportunity arise.
Mainly, it feels like learning Japanese would open up a whole new part of the world which, at the moment is inaccessable.Well, that’s a bit about me and I’m sure it’s gonna be a pleasure getting to know the TF-crowd and learning Japanese together. See you guys around! :)

May 17, 2014 at 6:16 am #45193Hi Tobias!
I’m starting semester 6 of computer science. Are you just entering the world of computer science, or have you tinkered and programmed before?
Not from the desk of Eihiko. Eihiko's boss took his desk away from him.May 18, 2014 at 1:14 am #45202Welcome to TextFugu!

Eihiko – Hi! I’m kinda in the middle of the two, I’ve programmed in a couple of languages but I never really got into cool stuff and/or GUI. I really wanna learn more about everything including the hardware/electrical stuff too. So I guess Im mostly new to it all but I’ve already got my feet wet. :)
Aikibujin – Thank you! :)
