    こんにちは!

I’m Dan, I’m 27, I’m a director at a web software/marketing company in Portsmouth, UK. I originally started learning Japanese about 10 years ago at college, but I stopped pretty early on when I moved college, and recently just picked it back up again. A few little bits have stuck but I’m basically starting from scratch!

Started on Textfugu last week, I’ve just about re-memorised hiragana, onto the vocab now. I’ve also just signed up to the Wanikani beta too, I’m working through the beginning material.

I originally wanted to learn Japanese for the usual pop culture reasons, games, anime, etc, but now I’d also like to learn for business reasons too. I’m planning to visit Japan in 2014, so hopefully I can make enough progress to have a rough idea what’s going on.

    :)

Welcome! You going for a holiday or something else? I reckon you’ll be fine – I went in 2010, before I actually started learning Japanese, and managed to survive with a phrasebook and charades, though actually knowing what was going on would probably have been helpful. Even with the phrasebook, there was no point in asking people questions, because I’d never understand the answers. =P

    Hey Joel,

Yeah it’s just a long overdue holiday with my other half, looking forward to it (I’ll probably post on here asking for suggestions on what to try and see/do early next year). Hopefully I’ll get as much learnt as I’d like, even if I don’t I doubt it’ll be my only ever visit!

    Cheers :)
