I live in New York and sort of, kind of, but not really, although I am a little, learning Japanese.  My primary motivation is career based, because one can live very comfortably doing what I do if one knows Japanese.  What finally got me on this road was a coworker whose been learning Japanese for a while.

I say I’m kind of learning Japanese because I’m really only devoting about 10% of my language learning time to Japanese.  The other 90% is going to Spanish, which I’ve been learning for a little more than a year.

I actually find that spending some time every day or every other day with Japanese helps my Spanish.  I think it helps to keep both languages feeling fresh.

Entonces, si alguien quiere hablar aquí sobre japonés en español, esta bién para mí.

    Hi Robert!

I also think it will help you! I’m from Spain and I can tell you that most of the pronunciations in Japanese are actually pretty similar to the Spanish ones, and knowing either one of them will help you remember the other one better ;)

Si tienes alguna duda sobre el español avisa!

Hi Robert. Welcome to Textfugu. If you don’t mind me asking, what do you do career wise?

Law of Capitalism number one: supply and demand.  There are few attorneys who speak Japanese, and there are few Japanese attorneys who speak English, but there is a lot of business between Japan and the U.S., so there is somewhat of a high demand there.

Interesting that. I find my girlfriend who is Japanese and learning Spanish has a very accent and her pronunciation is good.  We live in London. Good luck with your foreign languages. Actually, I speak quite good Spanish and visit a few tiems a year (written spanish is very rusty) and now am trying to have a go with Japanese.

Podemos communicar en Espanol sobre nuestras experencias en aprendiendo Japones. Hasta pronto.

    Michael.
