Hi! I’m Bassy, a working professional in the animation industry in the US. I came across TextFugu on social media, learned Hiragana at a scarily quick rate through their eBook, and decided to finally get into learning Japanese now that I’m out of school. My biggest reasons for learning Japanese include being able to communicate efficiently for a future planned trip to Japan(!!) and being able to understand/read Japanese texts. I did a few research papers on topics related to Japanese pop culture in college, and I was so frustrated by the language barrier that I felt like I only knew one side of the story.

I’ve barely started in the text, and there will probably be a few bumps in the road because of a future coast-to-coast relocation. Regardless, I’m gonna go into my studies full-throttle. Wish me luck!

Good luck! And good luck with your trip to Japan. =) I went before I started learning Japanese and managed to muddle through with a phrasebook and charades, but I’m sure things would have been much smoother if I could have understood answers to questions that I asked people. Enjoyed it so much anyway.

And I just realised that on Thursday, it will have been four years since I went. Ouch.

    Thanks, Joel!
I’m glad you enjoyed Japan regardless of the language barrier! I heard that visiting is still a good experience, Japanese or no Japanese, but I’d still like to try.

    Four years…:’)
