I picked Japan because of how the culture is built around lessening yourself, sacrificing your individuality, and being part of the group. While this has many positive aspects, it also has many negatives. A lot of Japanese people are ‘grown’ to suppress their feelings and there’s a lot of competition in the society. Thats a high risk of depression, and a high risk of suicide along with it. From my personal experiences with a therapist, I know how much it can help, and I want to be able to help people, the same way my therapist has helped me over the years. Japan is a focus area, as said, because of the high risk factor based on the culture. But I do love their culture and language, and thats another piece of interest for me; learning about something I just enjoy learning about.
Joel, from what research I’ve done, Jobs seem to be available, but being a foreigner, it’ll take me a lot of work; Because not only do I have to study Japanese, I also have to be there to pick up on the social environment and the way people subtly express how they feel. Its a heavy workload, but I’m willing to take it on.
[insert troll comment about how I plan to study the Japanese people by watching a lot of anime.]
