Just a random guy who has made it his quest to acquire basic knowledge of the Japanese language during his free time in the summer. I’ve been following the Tofugu blog for a long time and always got a kick out of Koichi’s hilarious YouTube videos. Now I figured it would be a great idea to give TextFugu a shot while it’s this cheap!
I’ve wanted to learn Japanese by myself for a while but struggled to find a decent sort of step-by-step guide, but luckily, I think TextFugu is going to help me out here. Other than that I’ve been using RTK and a neat website called Memrise for memorizing Kanji. I’m glad to finally be a member on here!

Yeah Textfugu is a pretty rad place to be learning some basics. If you can jam through the first 5 or 6 seasons in the summer (which, you should be able to do if you’re consistent) you’ll definitely have a handle on some basic stuff.
There is a lot of helpful stuff around here – unfortunately the search function doesn’t work :( but the more senior members of the community are aware of that and won’t react with anger and rage the way people do on other forums when you ask a question that’s already been asked. It’s very nice, actually.
