Hello, everyone who might be reading this. I’m Carol, and I’ve just just just bought Textfugu (thank you for the New Year’s Sale!!). I’d already read through Season 1 a couple months ago, so today I decided to start with Season 2. But of course, the first thing I read is something along the lines of “now go introduce yourself on the forum!”. So here I am…
Why do I want to learn Japanese? Well, besides the obvious answer (anime, anime, anime), I have a dream (great, now I’ll have that song stuck in my head for hours). I want to be a video game programmer for a (suprise!) video game company. Where does that relate to Japan? Well, for starters, I’m not American. And the two big video game making factions are Japan and America. Secondly, my favorite video game company ever is Square Enix. Although I really love Nintendo, Sony, Level-5, Jupiter, and I’ll shut up now. In fewer words, my dream is to work in Japan, making video games. Preferably in Square-Enix. The one problem with that was that I didn’t know Japanese. (besides, you know, living on the other side of the world, still being in High School without even knowing if I’m going to enter college, how hard it is to get to work in another country…) So, when I was… 14, I think, I started to work on my Japanese. Was I going for a long journey…
My first try was Rosetta Stone. Please, do laugh. While Rosetta Stone has a quite interesting concept, only after working with it did I realize something. I need to understand why those things work that way. Immersion my ass. Try number two were various internet thingies, such as Hiragana sheets (that was how I learnt Hiragana) and stuff like that. Then, I tried the book series “Japanese From Zero” but… You know… Meh…
Then I found TextFugu, just a couple months ago. I do hope that it turns out to be a better experience.
Well, that is pretty much my Japanese wise life story! Thank you for reading!
