Hello, my name is Alejandro and I’m just stopping by the forum to introduce myself. I live in Mexico and am a medical student. I am learning Japanese with the hopes of visiting Japan as an exchange student and living there in the future. Kanji is what has been giving me the most trouble, but after the first free lesson on Textfugu I thought that attempting a new approach might be just what I needed.

I was first exposed to Japanese culture through dubbed Japanese cartoons as a kid (few have not seen Dragon Ball here) and when I realized that they were originally in another language I simply HAD to see how it was originally meant to be and it blew me away. Much later on I found that the translations were sometimes not literal or deviated and thus decided to learn the language to enjoy it as it was meant to be enjoyed. As I started teaching myself I learned more and more about the culture and then realized that I didn’t just want to learn Japanese for the cartoons, but to enjoy a whole other culture.

So now here I am investing in my education so that now if I don’t study I feel guilt and a little wallet pain. Thanks for reading and I hope we get along.

Thanks for the warm welcome; I’m already feeling that learning kanji is way easier. @Armando, I’m in Veracruz, Veracruz, where it always feels like the sun is ten meters away.
