My name is Luca and I’m writing from northern Italy. I decided to learn japanese a couple of months ago. It’s something I have been desiring for a long long time. A lucky and poetic coincidence of events and ideas – including but not limited to: the emotional after-impact of an earthquake, the taste of umeboshi, a major novel by a well-known author, a business meeting with a japanes architecture genius, and a neverending fascination for 70s anime – suggested me I might as well actually do it this time. Textfugu, from the little I’ve seen, seems a little bit too pop-flavoured for my taste. But that is totally counterbalanced by the freshness of the overall approach and the anti-authoritarian spirit which the boss clearly has managed to infuse into his teaching theory. Thmubs up!

Hi Luca! I’m very interested in your interest with that Japanese architecture genius – what were the circumstances of your meeting?

Anyway, good luck with your studies, and I hope that the pop-flavor doesn’t get in the way too much!

I work for a museum. We recently organised a public meeting with japanese architect Shigeru Ban. He’s the kind of man who comes up with sentences like “Buildings last over time not if they are made of concrete, but if they are loved by the people who use them”. Which is why he builds with paper and cardboard. Oh yes he does! Reading what people like him have to say in the original version would be awesome.
