Just thought I’d drop in and say hi. I just joined, but have a year of classes on top of some personal study under my belt. I was going to hold off on introductions until I decided if I were going to stay, but I’m fairly sure that I’ll be staying at least until I finish all the lessons (though perhaps not consistently, because I never know if I’m going to have enough money to keep paying, and as a college student, it sometimes comes down to food or interests.)

Anyway, even though I’m a year in, I really didn’t get much kanji. I know maybe 80-90, and only maybe 15 of those are from class, the rest are just from repetition and I still sometimes forget them (well, I know the meanings instantly, but can’t always remember the readings). That’s really why I was so interested in this.

Also, I’ve just started reviewing, but I’m already super happy about two things I’ve seen. The first being the fact that unlike classes, the radicals are being explained too, something I always thought we should learn first, like the alphabet, but my prof. said that they didn’t really teach it in Japan, so it’s not needed. Secondly, I already love the way は is defined. I always remembered it as meaning “In regards to _____”, so the way it’s described as “as for _____” really made me think, wow, this is a program that really knows what it’s like for a student, or gets how students learn. I know I’m sounding like an ad or something, but I really am happy that there is some validation for the ways I thought when studying, that professors never really spoke about.

So yeah, sorry that’s so long, and nice to meet everyone.

Welcome…wow, you certainly have the jump on me! No formal classes locally for me in Japanese so I have no choice but self study.
