I came across TextFugu while travelling around Japan last year. I became a subscriber while on a busy commuter train while I was there and am only now getting into it seriously. My reasons for learning Japanese are twofold:

1. Family connection so I would like to be able to better converse with people without having to rely on Google Translate all the time (as useful as it is); and

2. I have always wanted to work in Japan for at least a year or two. Since most jobs require a certain level of business proficiency in Japanese, that’s where I’m aiming to be, possibly in conjunction with sitting the necessary JLPTs.
