Hey everyone nice to meet you!
My name is Greg and I am an Australian (kinda sounds like an intro at an AA meeting -_-). Ive been learning Japanese for a bit under a month now and I seem to have got the hang of hiragana, some katagana and some Kanji down pat. I heard about textfugu from some internet recommendations so I had a look at it and the first season was awesome so I decided to buy it. I’m currently a PhD student in Chemistry and I want to learn Japanese as I’m going on a trip there at the end of the year as a tourist and to snowboard. I would also like to watch anime without subtitles I guess as I watch it a fair bit. If anyone knows of any good alt/post rock/metal that is japanese and good that would be awesome to hear about too. I have rambled a lot now (sumimasen), so thanks for reading! I think this is how introductions to forums go…
Cheers :D
April 9, 2014 at 7:15 am #44811Hi Greg, welcome to the forum!
I’ve been compiling a Japanese music playlist on Spotify. I just started, so I don’t have many songs yet, but I still have a few to recommend! I’m at work right now, but I’ll look them up for you later.
はじめまして!
よろしくおねがいします!Not from the desk of Eihiko. Eihiko's boss took his desk away from him.April 9, 2014 at 7:40 am #44812Thanks that would be amazing! I will have a look around too so if I find anything interesting I’ll let you know

Australians Anonymous? =P My name is Joel, and I’m an Australian too.
I’m currently a PhD student in Chemistry
Ooo. How’s that going? I did about two-thirds of a PhD in Mechatronic Engineering, but it didn’t really work out…
April 9, 2014 at 3:48 pm #44816Hi Joel (imagine a crowd of people in a tiny room saying that).
My PhD is going well actually, things are going smoothly (super weird for any science project). Pretty much like my honours year except I’m actually being paid now which makes life way easier.
Did you end up going for a job in mechatronics after you left or are you pursuing something different?
Thanks for the welcome!

April 9, 2014 at 7:01 pm #44819Change of pace! I hope you enjoy it. Why did you decide to learn Japanese?
April 9, 2014 at 9:20 pm #44821Seemed like a good idea at the time. Also, I’d just come back from a trip to Japan. =)
April 10, 2014 at 6:23 pm #44841Pretty good reason :P

I posted some others to another member in the past. I’m not particularly recommending these because I like them (I don’t really like quite a few), but because it’s a good mix of different Japanese metal bands:
