After lurking for a few days, thought I’d pop in and say hello!

I’m 28, living in London UK. I love everything to do with Japan, but only recently became a lot more motivated to learn the language myself (as 30 looms ever closer, I’m on a bit of a personal improvement kick I guess!). I’ve tried to get learning a couple of times before this year, but my self teaching lacked direction. I threw myself into it a bit too fast, got overwhelmed and didn’t take the time to learn things properly. This site is amazing though… I’ve never been as motivated as I am by Textfugu, so hopefully this time will be the last time I ‘start again’ with it.

Hopefully you’ll see me more on the forums once I have hirigana melted into my brain cells once and for all. Right now I have no idea what half of you are saying haha!

Howdy! I’m also looming pretty close to 30 as I just turned 29. ;) It’s a great time for self improvement, isn’t it?

I’m glad you’re here! Good luck with your studies!

Definitely. It’s funny really… as a kid, I remember being offered free lessons in all sorts of things that I just couldn’t be bothered to do. Learning was so boring. Now that I’m older, I’m kicking myself for not realising how much ‘adult me’ would wish she could speak another language/play an instrument/etc etc. It’s so much harder now… but I’m pretty determined ^^

    Hello!

Just wanted to say from a fellow newbie…..I’m still learning Hirigana too. :)

So, welcome and if there’s anything I can help you with (which isn’t a whole lot atm lol, but I’ll try!), feel free to ask :)

….and best of luck with your studies too!

Well I loomed 30 over 36 years ago but have NEVER let age stop me from doing anything I wanted to do. At age 57 I took up karate and 5Ks and now I’m tackling Japanese. I always told my G’Kids to take of your mind and body and everything else will follow. Let’s all try our best to still be here next December!
BTW check out a little gem called “Kana Pict-o-Graphix” (used on Amazon for like $2) and you’ll learn hiragana in no time.
