I became a TextFugu member months and months ago but am only now ready to answer the very first question. Here’s hoping I’m ready to commit to learning Japanese as well!

So why am I learning Japanese? I used to think it was just out of a linguistic interest or a desire to make Japanese friends or something like that, but as time has passed I’ve come to realize that what I really want is to be able to translate Japanese literature into English. I love reading, and I love Japanese culture, and I love writing…and it would be so awesome to put all three of those things together and share them with others. I want to start on a lower level, of course (literature is hard!), so mini goals include blog posts, websites, marketing materials, advertisements, travel guides, and things of that nature.

A secondary reason is that I’ve wanted to live and work in Japan since I first visited in 2001, but I’m not sure how feasible that is now that I’m an Old Married Woman ;)
