Hi I’m Sarah! I don’t like introducing myself.
I am from Los Angeles, and I just recently moved to Boise, Idaho.
I love food (cooking, fermenting, or otherwise creating, and eating)!!
I am a massage therapist and essential oil therapist. I’m into fiber arts, craaafts, singing, weightlifting, and most recently learning Japanese! I had no intention of doing so until I happened upon Tofugu then Textfugu and it’s just been really fun so far (I’ve just finished season 1 and feel super awesome about Hiragana)! I’m rolling with it! It would be very cool to open up the possibility of Japan travel. We’ll see what happens!
A question: I’ve just barely tried Wanikani (haven’t subscribed) and it seems awesome. Do you all recommend that I use it instead of/ in conjunction with/after the kanji lessons in Textfugu? Will that make things confusing? Maybe Textfugu will tell me how to best use it soon. Thanks!
February 3, 2014 at 11:23 pm #43935I’d recommend using Wanikani alongside Textfugu. I’m just getting into season 5, and started using Wanikani recently. I like Wanikani a lot more than Anki, but right now there’s no way to jump ahead. Even though I already know almost all of the radicals, Kanji, and vocab I’ve seen in Wanikani, I can only get to the next level by doing a certain number of reviews, which come at set intervals. The order of things in Textfugu and Wanikani match up pretty well from what I’ve seen, so it’s going to take a while before I’m seeing much new stuff in Wanikani.
The first two levels are fairly substantial, so you should have time to decide whether or not you want to continue Wanikani before you need to pay.
Also, from what I’ve read, there’s going to be a big update to Textfugu, which will hopefully use Wanikani-like review in place of the Anki stuff. I think it’s been in the works for a while, though, so I wouldn’t wait for that.
February 4, 2014 at 12:13 am #43940Welcome to TextFugu! ^_^
I would actually suggest the following:
Do them only in WaniKani at first, as they are easier to learn there than they are here using Anki.
This will also save you study time so you can focus more on the other material you are reviewing in Anki.
Once you hit level 6 in WaniKani, add the Kanji decks that are here up to Season 4. Go through them and decide if you want to continue reviewing the Anki ones or just stick to WaniKani.
