Hi! I’m Jack, and I’m old – really old.
I taught English in Japan more than a quarter century ago right after college. I went with all intentions of learning Japanese but got caught up either socializing with my gaijin friends or with Japanese who wanted to speak English (surprise!) Though Japan was an amazingly easy place to live and navigate with much language skills, I really should have taken advantage of my chance to learn. Well, now I’m repenting for my past sins and finally learning it for real this time (I also have some large Japanese corporations as clients, so there’s a chance I may have to go back for a short or long while).
The Kana have been easy because I did know them once upon a time, but I’m especially happy to have the Kanji intro.
    Thanks.

I meant to say Japan is an easy place to navigate “without” much language skill, but as you can see, my English isn’t much better.

Jack, welcome to the forums! It’s a bummer that you weren’t able to study back then, but at least you’re here now! :)

    Good luck with your studies!
