Decided to keep them together with the rest of the vocab, actually. Since in Japanese text katakana will be mixed in, I figure it’s better to train myself to jump between the two than to study in katakana mode. It’s not like the cards take me long individually. It’s just that there’s so many of them :P

Just a note as a TESOL teacher, studying the same way that things happen in the wild isn’t always the best option. It’s often better to isolate certain things during the learning process so your brain doesn’t get confused making your study time less efficient. When you get to the point that you are reading native content as your study rather than using flashcards, it will gel together naturally.

That said, if it’s working for you, go for it.

Can someone tell me how to limit my decks to certain cards? I am new to Anki and want to learn 5 cards at a time. Can this be done? ありがとうございます

Go to “Tools»Create Filtered Deck (F)” and enter a search expression.

The easiest way is to just use tag:marked and then press the star icon (Ctrl+K) on the cards you want in the card browser.

Another way to do it would be to use something like Expression:"ねこ" or Meaning:"Water" which would include the cards “ねこ/Cat” and “みず/Water”. Just add more “Expression:___” or “Meaning:___” and separate them by “or”.

If you want to do them over and over again, also uncheck “Reschedule my cards based on my answers in this deck” when creating the filtered deck and then press the “Rebuild” after studying the deck.

There are other options as well, but it depends on exactly what you mean by ‘learn 5 cards at a time’.

At what point would you consider them learned?

Or do you mean for it to add 5 new cards a day?
