Hi there. My name is James. I just graduated from grad school last August with a degree in Library and Information Science. I’m looking for work but until I get my big-boy job, I figured I’d brush up on my Japanese. I lived in Japan for 8 months, working for 4 of them at a corporate ESL company and bumming around Tokyo for the other 4. Looking back, I wish I had had a working knowledge of Japanese before going to Japan. I think my trip would have gone more smoothly. I hope to return to Japan one of these days but before I go, I want to acquire at least some basic communication skills. Hence, Textfugu. I live in Somerville, Massachusetts and I’m 32. I’m 5’10″, 168lbs, brown hair, hazel eyes, male. Nice to meet you. See you when I do…

Welcome! Doesn’t exactly sound like you had a terrible time over there. Manage to get much sighteeing done in your four months of “bumming around”?

I worked in the library when I studied at uni, but when I tried looking for a real-person job in a library, they all wanted me to have a Library Science degree. Bah. I’ve only been to Japan the once also, but in my case it was just a two-week holiday. =)

Hi Joel. Nice to meet somebody on here. My trip to Japan was really a mixed bag to be honest. I had some great experiences and some pretty lousy experiences. I was in kind of a strange place mentally and emotionally back then though so perhaps some of my experience were reflective of my state. Anyway, TMI I’m sure. Thanks for reaching out.
