I know there’s not many UK based Textfugu users (at least actively on the forums anyway), but was wondering if anyone is heading down to Hyper Japan in February?
If not… you should. Enough said.

ooh, awesome! I got tickets so long ago that I’m scared I’m going to forget what day it is on…. so excited though! Not been before… only ever been to really small conventions, so kinda intrigued to see some cosplay that’s actually good, and eat some good sushi!

We’re trying to figure out the best way to get there from the train stations! It goes on for the weekend I think but I don’t live in London, I’d have to spend a fair bit of money to get a hotel there, but since we are likely going to be a couple soon I might ask if I can stay with her and her friends. I think she’s wearing a kimono, I’m wearing…jeans and a t-shirt. Haha.

    Firstly, hello UK person :P
Secondly, the number of weaboos attending would make my blood boil. On the front page, it mentions “UK Kawaii Star of the Year” – that sentence alone makes me shiver XD The odd Japan-obsessed nut (the kind that think calling themselves an otaku is a good thing) is annoying, but at an entire *convention* of them like this… I can’t even imagine how that would feel >.< Don't get me wrong, lots of regular people with a reasonable interest in Japanese culture/language will be there, and that would be just fine, pretty fun even, but realistically, 50%+ of the non-Japanese festival-goers will be the self-styled "totemo kawaii otaku desu neeee!!!1" crowd :P

    Rant over.

Have a good time anyway, and try not to punch too many people in the face ;)

Oh hey (Mark)! It starts on my birthday :D As much as I’d hate the people there, that’d probably still be a fun way to spend a birthday haha. Not gonna buy a (probably sold out) ticket though. It’d be expensive enough even just *getting* to London (from Edinburgh).

Oh wow… looking at the pictures from the 2010 festival… Lolita Goth looks bad enough on Japanese girls, but *here*… ¬.¬
    XD

Haha I feel the same way! I’m just going to ignore that stuff as much as possible. I don’t know why but Japanese in romaji kind of annoys me, it looks weird and annoying to read.

    aha agreed about those people.
makes me wanna buy them a trip to japan so that all the Japanese people can let them know how stupid and pathetic they are when they play pretend in front of them.
cause you know, im nice and all.
but anyways, im sure theres gonna be some sick stuff over there…have fun x__X

@Yggbert – Oooh! Good luck with your Japanese maybe-soon-to-be-girlfriend! :D Where abouts will you be heading in from? If you need any travel advice lemme know. Also, agreed about romaji. Although maybe that’s just me feeling a bit superior over anyone who chooses to ignore kana and not learn Japanese properly.

@Mister – it’s not expensive at all… I got my saturday ticket for 6 quid. And it’s not sold out as far as I know. But maybe not worth a journey all the way from Scotland hehe.

Hah… yeah, I’m not exactly looking forward to all the girls running around looking like Hello Kitty threw up on them, screaming ‘KAWAAAAIIIII DESUUUUU!!!’ at anything and everything… but I am looking forward to the rest of it. Hoping to buy some cool stuff, learn a bit about the culture, taste some nice food and generally have a laugh. Hell, I may even buy something generically かわいい and ridiculous but dammit, I shall have fun doing it :P

Lack of pics is a bit disappointing but I’m trying hard to imagine the 6/10 at best girl your taking (pics for proof) but as long as it’s a wouldsmash/10 then you can PIITB. Mirin’ serratus tho but do you even lift? If all else fails you can just CEO 10k/day disregard females and acquire aesthetics.

Holy crap.. totally missed this, Tickets on the door it is then!
Can we have a textfugu meet up? I’m coming from Brighton, would actually be nice to discuss my Japanese learning with people who are mildly interested!

    ‘clapping dem cheekz’ – Brilliant.

    EDIT: Food is my main motivator for heading there.. There are three decent Japanese restaurants in Brighton, but none of them serve a good bowl of ramen ;_;

@isocracy – I think you can still get advance tickets, least you could last time I looked. You just print them out, so it won’t matter that it’s not far off.

Once I work out what time I’m going and stuff (what day(s) are you guys there?) I’ll let people know. I’ll be with the boyfriend so will also depend what he wants to do, but could maybe arrange to meet people!

I’m well up for the food. I too have never found decent ramen, and I’m in the middle of London!

You going to the Japan Festival in Brighton later in the year I take it? I missed it last year, gutted :(
