My name is Stephen, and I am learning Japanese so I can get back to Japan. I lived in Japan for about 18 months several years ago, and I can’t get it out from under my skin. Now that I am done with law school, I have a whole lot less to distract me from how much I miss Japan.

If I don’t learn the language, I’ll never be able to get a good job over there. I learned very little Japanese when I lived there, and almost seven years on, I have forgotten lots. Time to change that!

I’m headed to Tokyo in February of 2015. I have a lot of work to do until then.

    Welcome to TextFugu!

Do you plan on practicing law in Japan?

Also check out this thread for some tips on organizing Anki 2 with the early chapters of TextFugu:

    Thanks for your post, Aikibujin!

I’m interested in legal practice opportunities, but they would mostly be in a transnational context, I suspect. The skill set and background are useful in a host of other contexts, though, so I would hope to find something career-ish that would be engaging and rewarding, while also being in Japan. If nothing else, my friends would be shocked to death if I could speak some Japanese when I make my next visit!

I’m going to get Anki going. It’s definitely a bit tricky at first, so I appreciate especially the link to speed things up on that front.
