hello. i keept trying to import the second sentences deck to anki in my sentences deck but i keep getting a message on my pc that says unknown file format. help!
September 8, 2013 at 6:24 am #41837That’s weird. You are using Anki 2?
Here is how I import decks to Anki:
- Start Anki
- Click “File” –> “Import…”
- Find the folder and the file, e.g. “sentences2.anki”
- Click “Open”
- Now you should have a new deck named “sentences2″ (or similar)
- To merge with an already-made deck (say “sentences1″, you can use the “Browse” button and find the new deck. Mark all the cards (Ctrl+A) and hit “Change deck” and then “Move cards”I hope it helps. If not, try to take a screenshot of the error message and show it here :)
September 8, 2013 at 7:15 pm #41844Gustav, I wasn’t having the same problem as the OP, but thanks so much for the info! I was having a hard time with that myself, since the instructions in TextFugu are outdated.
Much appreciated~

September 11, 2013 at 1:05 am #41871i feel like a broken record :/ cuz now i cant import sentences 3, i try opening and saving it and either way, winrar says the file is damaged :/
September 11, 2013 at 3:40 pm #41879Ah, are you having trouble opening the .zip? What OS are you running on your computer? Unless you have something very old, you shouldn’t need to run WinRAR to open these files.
In Windows 7, if your computer is trying to open the file with WinRAR, you can open it normally by right-clicking > “Open with” > Windows Explorer. From there, look near the top of the folder window (underneath the file directory bar) and click “Extract all files”. Do that (choose to extract it to an Anki folder on your desktop or somewhere to help keep you organized), and then you should be able to import into Anki the way Gustav said.
Does that help at all?
樽が大好きだよ!October 18, 2013 at 1:16 pm #42166I’m curious if I am even using the correct version of Anki.
My version has an interface that looks different than the one in the videos in TextFugu. It looks somewhat less sophisticated, implying that it’s an older version.
It’s version 2.0.14, an update suggested by the program Anki itself. (I apologize for not attaching images, but apparently drag-and-drop isn’t the way to do it here . . . and, with respect to HTML, ぼくはへたです.)

October 19, 2013 at 5:43 am #42170Yes you do have the latest version. You are using Anki 2, where as TF shows Anki 1.
Another way to merge decks is to simply click and drag one into another from the decks viewer.

October 28, 2013 at 7:08 am #42194Yeah its not working for me either.
See this is what happens
1) I download something (in this example it’s vocab)
2)I open it
3) I go on anki and select File>Import
4) I search through my downloads until I find it
5) I click the file and it comes up with the same error ‘Unknown File Format’October 30, 2013 at 6:12 am #42203Are you unzipping the files after you download them?
