Hello :)
My name is Rachel.
I currently live in Israel but I’m from the U.S. I’m an accountant. I’ve been looking for a great way to study Japanese independently -I couldn’t really take classes in Israel because I don’t speak Hebrew :). After searching for the best curriculum I stumbled across this website and it seemed to be perfect for my current state of affairs.I want to learn Japanese for numerous reasons but mainly because I would love to move to Japan and be able to work/live there and I have vowed to learn at least one foreign language in my lifetime. Also, it would be great to understand anime without having to read the subtitles :)
June 28, 2011 at 6:30 am #13354Hello Rachel,
Welcome to Textfugu. It’s lovely to meet you and hope you can make the most of your studies with this site.
I wonder… have you not tried to learn Hebrew whilst in Israel? What with their weird alphabet and back-to-front books, it’s kinda as quirky as Japanese!
I too, want to work in Japan and am hoping to get a Working Holiday Visa at the end of the year. So… if you’re going to learn AT LEAST one language in your lifetime, what others would you like to learn?

Your reasons sound brilliant.
Good luck learning Japanese.
June 28, 2011 at 10:07 am #13360Aloha! Nice to meet you all! My name Melissa and I live in Honolulu, Hawaii. I just happened to come across this site last night and decided to give it a try. The main reason I am learning Japanese is so I can communicate better with people here. I know how to read & write hiragana & katakana, but I just need to learn to speak Japanese! I have always wanted to be able to speak another language and now I can finally start. I’m so excited!
June 28, 2011 at 9:22 pm #13375@underwater_wanderer – I’ve actually had a class in basic Hebrew – it is quirky, but I don’t really like the language, too many phlegm noises :).That’s so exciting that your going to work in Japan, good luck! Besides learning Japanese I would love to learn Farsi (conversationally) because I have a considerable amount of friends and family who speak it, Arabic, and who knows what else…
@hashi – I’m doing some volunteer service at the Baha’i World Center, I’ve been here for about a year and a half, and I have a little over a year left before I leave.
@Winter – Thank you!
@Mkiku – That’s exciting, you’re already much farther than me :). Good luck with your studies! I have a few friends from Hawaii – I don’t remember what parts they’re all from though…
June 29, 2011 at 10:12 am #13390@Melissa, were you meant to post that in your introduction thread?
June 29, 2011 at 7:46 pm #13429@ Winter – I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking me. Please rephrase. Thank you!
June 30, 2011 at 12:13 am #13448She means you should make your own thread so you can be greeted properly lol.
Anyway, welcome to the forum Ratchet!
June 30, 2011 at 9:47 am #13471Oh okay. Thank you:)
