First of all, hi everyone!
I got the life time membership, I have been eyeing it for quite some time but decided to get it since it was on sale. But now I wonder “should I wait for the BIG update on textfugu before I start using it”?
I mean if it is alot better and will help you learn easier faster etc. Or will the difference between the current and the next version be neglible?
January 3, 2014 at 6:22 pm #43065Welcome to TextFugu and Happy New Year!
Only Koichi could answer how big the difference between this version and the next version will be, but I can almost guarantee that his answer to the other question would be to start now.
That would be my answer as well. The stuff in this version as a whole is pretty great already and it’s likely going to be months before the next version is released. It would behoove you to get as much done of this version as you can and thus you can simply browse through the new version until you find parts you are unfamiliar with or not strong in.

January 4, 2014 at 12:37 am #43066You can only benefit by starting sooner. My thinking when it does eventually go live is to breeze through it from beginning until it gets more difficult. I do this for certifications I generally already know and usually find bits here and there that I didn’t realize before or missed somehow. Plus it takes no time to skim through things, and you can think of it as a refresher for material you might not be as familiar with and to engrain other knowledge you might know with new ways of looking at it.
You could say I’ve been learning Japanese all “wrong” for years, but despite that I have come to know a lot of tedious things that makes getting into new methods of learning much easier such as being able to
readpronounce and write in Hiragana and Katakana, and even various Kanji even though I don’t quite understand what it is I am reading.January 4, 2014 at 8:31 am #43073This supposed big update has been “coming soon” for a long, long, long, long time, so I wouldn’t wait around for it. It most likely won’t happen in any of our lifetimes…
Replace “OP” with “Koichi”January 4, 2014 at 10:58 am #43082That said, unless he’s straight up lying, we know he is actually focusing his resources on it right now. Unlike in the past when he said there were going to be updates and was focusing on WaniKani or etoeto.
