はじめまして皆さん!!
I’m a student at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada, majoring in anthropology and minoring in Chinese (Mandarin).
I’ve already spent a lot of time teaching myself Japanese; I know my kana, basic vocabulary and a bunch of kanji. However what attracted me to Textfugu was that:
1. My progress was slow and I felt that I needed a major learning aid,
2. The other resources I was using were either complicated (I would make my own “lessons” by doing a bunch of research with hardly anyone to help me cross-reference what I was absorbing which led to a lot of confusion), or the resources themselves were simply unclear and confusing.
3. Textfugu’s focus on student motivation is something that I offer my English students, so if I’m going to chose a learning resource, I’d want at least that from it! And finally,
4. From what I can tell Textfugu has a unique approach to learning kanji that I’ve never learned before. I used to use Remembering the Kanji in combination with Anki, but not being able to actually read the kanji was killing me. Dumped that project in the garbage at about 800 kanji . . . . :/
My ambition is fairly straightforward: to spend the next 4 to 5 years of my life working on my degree while learning Japanese, move to Japan and work as a teacher!
Hopefully I’ll make some friends on the forums and enjoy Textfugu as well! Oh! I almost forgot: I have a website about Japanese art (JapaneseArtwork.org) which I’m very proud of! :D
*(I hope that doesn’t count as “advertising” — if it does, I’ll remove it)
