I’m not sure what “generation” your iPod is but I was thinking that perhaps you could check in the App Store through your iPod and search to see if they have something similar to what these are. I bookmarked the link above so I can check them out and perhaps get one.

Also if you want to start reading in Japanese but don’t feel strong in your kanji yet, you can either go to the Japanese Amazon store or even Rakuten International (or Global) store and look for children’s books that are at least geared toward kids either in first grade and a little over.

I’ve also noticed that I have many iOS apps that are cross compatible (between iPhone/iPod and iPad). Perhaps the only one that really “failed” to cross over from my iPhone to iPad is one Japanese ebook reader that had a dictionary built in so you can play the text as audio. You can highlight and touch onto any words/kanji that you aren’t sure about and it gives the meanings and pronunciation of the words. The iPhone version remains fine; I still have all my ebooks (the ones that came with the app, mostly these are Japanese texts that are currently in public domain) but I wanted the premium version that would allow me to upload my own pdf or text files, all those books disappeared from the iPad version???? Oh well….

Though I have a few Japanese novels, that I’m trying to translate as extra practice, I really should try to pick up a couple of children’s story books at least at kids under first grade level if only to practice my reading and speaking (reading the stories out loud).

Those are just some ideas I ran across that hopefully will help you out, but I’m sure there are others.
