    I’m a little bit confused about the reading of the vocab.

    There is the King 王 and the on-reading is おう. And there is the child 子 with the on-reading し. If I combine both I get the Prince 王子 (おうじ). So there is a slightly change in the pronunciation of 子. Same in Volcano 火山(かざん instead かさん).

    Why is it so? Is there a Rule?

    its rendaku. it kind of has rules, some words tend to get a dakuten/handakuten, some never, some get it all the time.
