Hey everyone, I was wanting to know if the kanji compound before and after the particle is pronounced differently in the following sentence since it adds a different meaning to the kanji.
大人 は 大きい です。
My romaji translation of the following sentence is as follows.
oohito wa ookii desu.
Please let me know if I am translating this sentence correctly and if it’s wrong, let me know how I’d pronounce it, thanks!

aka Kyaroru Torojanoosuki大人 is one of them freaky exceptions. It’s おとな (otona). =)
That said, if you were going to guess the reading of a word you’ve never seen before, you’d typically go with the on’yomi when it’s a compound noun made from multiple kanji. In this case, that’d be だいにん (dainin).
Clears up a lot of confusion I had going into kanji with on’yomi and kun’yomi readings.. Im guessing for all the beginner kanji learners out there we should follow the basics such as on’yomi when compound of multiple kanji and kun’yomi when hiragana follows kanji.. It will come with experience I’m guessing?
Aye, once you’ve got a bunch of kanji and vocab under your belt, you’ll start to get a feel for which reading goes were. You’ll even start to be able to intuit readings of words you’ve never seen before.
