Hi Guys,
Real quick, anyone had any experience with Kanji Damage?
I’ve been trialing RTK – but it bores the hell out of me (And I love Kanji!)I love Textfugu Kanji – however there isn’t enough at the moment to keep me satisfied – Anyone have any recommendations?
I’m thinking, do as much Textfugu Kanji as possible – then just cram and reassert the KanjiDamage radicals and mnemonics for the one’s I have already learned.
Would love your feedback?! ^_^
March 21, 2012 at 7:47 am #28322I only looked at Kanijdamage, the idea sounded good but the layout of the website was a turnoff for me. I’m doing RtK at the moment, I hate Heisig but the mnemonics from Kanji Khooli make life much much more interesting, I don’t think I could get through RtK without their stories.
If you do go through Kanjidamage let us know how it goes.
March 21, 2012 at 1:04 pm #28330If you’re finding RTK too dull, my advice is to make up your own stories. It sounds arrogant, but a lot of Heisig’s mnemonics worked for him because of the way his mind works; his past, his tastes, all the little bits and pieces that make up his psyche. Unless you’re incredibly similar to Heisig, chances are at least a few of his stories won’t fit the way your mind works (for me, it’s the religious references). My advice is to use Heisig’s ordering, but make up your own stories for each of the radicals/kanji, and see if it works a little better.
March 22, 2012 at 9:51 am #28347RTK is indeed boring as hell, but it is a good way to learn lots of kanji in a short timeframe. I hate it but I’m nearly done.
Read the Kanji is a good website for, well, uhh, kanji. I still think they need to add a way to learn single kanji only, as when they start introducing 2 new kanji at a time it gets difficult to remember them both, on top of the readings for the word. I think I’ll do very well when I start using the site again after finishing RTK. (RTK being the boring book, not the website of course)
March 22, 2012 at 10:53 am #28348I couldn’t take kanjidamage serious, and while I do like the concept it is done very unprofessionally(IMO). I went through RTK using kanji.koohi all the way, but I have seen others only using kanjidamage. Try both, see what you think.
Personally I prefer kanji.koohi, and it is not like you can get rid of the RTK book just because you choose kanjidamage, it is just a webpage with stories, it doesn’t provide the entire book you, only the stories.March 23, 2012 at 9:44 am #28366I stumbled upon this site a few days ago, and I’ve been looking through it. Its approach seems to be a mixture of a bunch of different kanji learning methods, and it looks promising for people like me with bad memory. I also found a premade KanjiDamage Anki deck here.
In any case, I was wondering if anybody else here had used KanjiDamage. Tips/tricks/info/rumors/??? would be awesome.
March 23, 2012 at 9:52 am #28367You could take a peak at the other Kanji Damage thread, that’s on the front page, and add any info to that rather than having two threads about it. :p
March 27, 2012 at 4:48 am #28533Herp derp -_-. That was a giant fail on my part, I don’t know how I missed that thread. Mods, please delete this thread.
March 27, 2012 at 8:41 am #28534March 27, 2012 at 8:56 am #28537Merged? More like 合体 ! :v
I’m using KanjiDamage and RTK both, kinda swapping on and off. Kanji sucks so I’ll use anything if it helps me remember :3
March 27, 2012 at 11:36 am #28567Aww what?! Kanji is awesome! Much easier than trying to cram abstract vocab in hiragana! At least a Kanji will instantly allow me remember the word by quick glance. If not I have to trawl through a tonne of similar sounding words in my head and hope I actually got it right first guess.
Compunds still giving me a bit of trouble, but I’m just guessing it will come together soon! Although, neither RTK or Kanjidamage are good for that anyway..March 27, 2012 at 11:37 am #28568Hashi: Master of Threads.
March 27, 2012 at 12:47 pm #28608I have altered the forums. Pray I do not alter them further.
