hi! I was wondering if it was important to know which pronunciations of kanji were the “on” or “kun” versions. As long as you know all the pronunciations, is the distinction needed? Thanks for the help!

I think it’s somewhat important, though I’m not sure I 100% understand what you’re asking. Do you have an example to help me out, maybe?

I think he means for example 水 has the readings すい、みず.

And I think he wants to know if it is important to know which is On and which is Kun reading, or if he can disregard which is which and just remember the readings.

In any case it is useful since when you are seeing a compound of Kanji (moslty On) or with a verb or adj (mostly Kun), you know right away what is the prununciation.

Well that is if I understood what I read.
