I’ve just been studying my 4-stroke kanji and as Im learning now Im beginning to realize that some kanji have the same hiragana reading even though they have a different meaning.. Is that normal and how would you tell what someone means when they are talking? Is it just through common sense?

Another problem im experiencing is with soudesu and when to use it can someone clean it up?

    けちな お父さん
stingy father… Is that there a kanji that I haven’t seen yet (IM on 4-4 stroke kanji)

Yes, many kanji have the same reading – on’yomi especially. For example, there’s about a hundred and eleven kanji with the on’yomi こう. There’s a lot of words which are homophones too, which is why the use of kanji is fairly important in writing. But yeah, in speech, it’s context and common sense. =)

“Soudesu” = that’s right, that’s correct. It’s a way of agreeing with something someone had just said, or a way of answering a yes/no question in the affirmative.

    You learn 父 in 4-6.
