Hajimemashite, Sunnie desu. I wanted to read all of the other introductions before I wrote this, but I only got through the first page before I figured I’d better introduce myself, or I might not get to it until next month. So, from time to time I’ll be greeting everyone on from now on. :) I’m happy to be here, it feels like an online Japanese High School. (Never thought I’d get to have that experience! Thanks, TextFugu, and everyone!)
About myself, I’ve been using TextFugu for about a month and a half now, and I am very happy and satisfied with it – I feel that I have learned a lot, and that I have been taught how to make it stick (tricky!). I like languages and one of my dreams is to learn as many languages as possible in my lifetime. I am only fluent in English so far, although I speak/understand a little Spanish as well, and have studied a bit of lots of other languages (French, German, Russian, Korean, Thai, Chinese, Portuguese). I have decided to focus only on Japanese and Spanish for now, though – especially Japanese, because it’s so different from the languages I’m most familiar with (English, Spanish), it has Kanji (which fascinate me), and because I love many Japanese art forms (manga, pop/rock/music, anime, theatre, literature, etc) and deeply would like to understand them in their original format (IE language), and finally because what I have learned of Japanese culture fascinates me almost as deeply and I want to go to Japan to see what it is like with my own eyes – and the only way I’ll have any chance of getting even close to experiencing what Japan is really like is to spend some time there, get off the beaten path a bit, and UNDERSTAND THE LANGUAGE. So. Really, I’m actually very focused on becoming proficient in Nihongo at the moment. :) Um, as for myself, I am…hm, I like music, reading, people, science, math, and nature, as well as cooking, creativity, art, dance, eating and sleeping the best. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu! :)
January 1, 2012 at 3:04 pm #23235Ya know, I can relate to many of your stated reasons for studying Japanese. Good luck to us all!
January 1, 2012 at 7:30 pm #23250Hi Sunnie!
Welcome to the forums. Sounds like you have a long road ahead in learning that many languages! It’s great that Japanese is getting priority, though. ;)
Good luck in all of your studies!
CassandraJanuary 2, 2012 at 2:19 am #23269Indeed, Lee! Ganbasshou…ne? (Hahaha what’s the Japanese equivalent of “Spanglish”?)
Hi winterpromise, and thank you! …don’t remind me :cries:. Oh well, yea, Japanese is just really addictive, isn’t it? Language, culture, the whole dang island chain is like a drug. Making it a priority was probably inevitable – I’m just hooked! Lol (Btw do you prefer to be addressed as winterpromise or Cassandra?)
