Hey, everyone! I’m new to TextFugu and just wanted to say hi!
I’ve been self-teaching Japanese for about 1 1/2 years but I haven’t really gotten anywhere. I’m sure you know how it feels to get bogged down and discouraged. When I say 1 1/2 years, that’s also including the time I spent procrastinating and the such. Its just the overall time I’ve spent since I started. I never found a good source for self-teaching until now. I just started today and finished the free trial.
TextFugu has really inspired and motivated me to keep going and I’ve seen a lot of good ratings/reviews on it so I thought I’d give it a try. I currently have a monthly payment and I’m going to see how well I keep up. I’m sure that eventually I will upgrade in the future but I’d like to try this out some more first. I’m really looking forward to learning more and being able to speak a lot better. =)

    Hey welcome to Textfugu!
Yeah, I was trying to self-teach myself for about a year and a half also, but I didn’t know if I was teaching the right stuff or not. But Textfugu really helps you and guides you! :)
If you have any questions, feel free to ask us on the forum.

Hi there, welcome to TextFugu! What’s got you interested in learning Japanese in the first place?

    Good luck with your studies!

    Thanks!
I really got interested in Japanese by watching an anime (yes, yes, I know what you’re thinking but that’s not it) called Rurouni Kenshin. Its story takes place around the time of the Bakumatsu and the beginning of the Meiji Era. I was so intrigued by all the historical events that took place so I started reading up on it and Japan’s culture. I had already some limited knowledge of Japan and listened to music by Japanese artists but I think that that piqued curiosity I had for it’s history is the thing that really got me started.
Besides that, I really love Japan’s culture and I think the language is beautiful. I really want to be able to visit Japan and freely communicate with people there. I never knew learning a language could be so fun (or frustrating depending on how you look at it) because English is the only language I know.
Hopefully, that will change over time. ;D
