Yes it is subjective, but I will repeat myself; JLPT3 is the official test to complete in order to be at the official intermediate level. From the context i originally said this in I was arguing that this site was not aimed at intermediate learners. And seeing as how you officially label intermediate Japanese is from the JLPT3, I was trying to express that since TextFugu doesn’t claim to make you reach intermediate it doesn’t have to be on JLPT3 level. Intermediate is something that can’t be defined, I agree, but when it comes down to this argument, the only thing Koichi(and everyone else) will be able to measure proficiency by is the JLPT.
If it doesn’t claim to let you reach intermediate level it doesn’t really help to say “oh hey I define intermediate by learning 3 words, and therefor TextFugu is now done”. You have to use the official way of measuring, and that is why I am referring to JLPT3 as the intermediate level.
You still disagree that the official way to measure proficiency by, is using the JLPT, and that number 3 is the official test to complete if you want to be an official intermediate?
If so, I am not going to waste more time arguing about something that silly – read the context ^^- This reply was modified 12 years, 12 months ago by マーク・ウェーバー.
November 29, 2011 at 8:37 am #21460I was done with the current content a while ago, but I still do the new lessons as I think they explain it better then my current grammar book. I think MarkW has a point as there has been massive amounts of errors recently, although I haven’t checked section 5, so that could be even worse. I think he’s right about the quality going down the fancier it gets.
November 29, 2011 at 8:37 am #21462There is no such thing as an “official intermediate” though.
JLPT3 isn’t even considered intermediate, it’s officially ranked as “upper intermediate” with JLPT4 as “lower intermediate”
So the middle ground (intermediate) is totally subjective here.November 29, 2011 at 8:40 am #21464Also, I think in future we need to separate me and Mark Weber because it gets confusing.
maybe call Mark Weber MarkW?November 29, 2011 at 8:42 am #21466>I guess that means TextFugu is working towards ‘intermediate’ eh? Officially, right? ;)
exactly, finally you seem to get my point ^^November 29, 2011 at 8:44 am #21467My original point was just that JLPT3 isn’t what defines intermediate, and I still stand by it. :P
November 29, 2011 at 8:45 am #21468Mark W suits me fine ^^
But yes I agree Mark! It is getting rather confusing!November 29, 2011 at 10:59 am #21481November 29, 2011 at 12:58 pm #21520If the JLPT ‘intermediate’ level is really is the comparison you want to use then maybe we should accept that TextFugu is not going to be teaching or preparing people for JLPT2 level content anytime soon, there’s plenty of other sources that have the JLPT ordering different, though. (they’re not that old either; they include the newer JLPT5)
I don’t think missingno has done JLPT but it’s still fair to say he’s at an intermediate level, as are a select few others here. That’s why I think it’s silly to use JLPT as the method of telling who is intermediate and who is not.
I’ll leave it at that now, no real need to expand further.

November 29, 2011 at 5:58 pm #21603Oh you guyz ~ :P
Last time I apologized and started doing more updates (been pretty consistent with updates since then, I think). Since this happens every 2-3 months or so, I’ll just say this, and you can take it however you’d like (though hopefully not in a mean way, because I don’t mean to be mean…)
This stuff is difficult… if it wasn’t, there’d be like a million Japanese textbooks online. Most companies have a ton of people working on things – In terms of content, it’s just me (though I make Hashi do bounties usually, ho ho ho).
Also if we look at the history of these ‘no updates’ forum posts, it’s like:
Me: Whew, one lesson a month. This is hard!
[3 months later]
Everyone: Koichi, you never update! I hate you!
Me: Dang, okay, I’ll update more. Let’s do 2 lessons a month.
Everyone: Yayyy.
[3 months later]
Everyone: Koichi, you never update! I hate you! 2 lessons a month? pshhhh, stop playing Starcraft all the time!
Me: Oh, okay… I guess that’s not enough. Let’s do 3 a month.
Everyone: Yayyy!
[3 months later]
Everyone: Why you never update? Only 3 lessons a month? weaksauce!
Me:
[3 months into the future]
repeat :( :( :( :( :(
I won’t be doing more lessons per month, but I’ll give you more kanji. Gotta catch up from the transition period between 6 and 7, after all.
P.S. Did I mention all this is a lot of work? Doesn’t look like it from the outside, I’m sure, but there’s always a good 10-12 hours worth of things to do lately to keep me busy. :/
P.P.S. Love you guyz!
November 29, 2011 at 6:27 pm #21610November 29, 2011 at 7:33 pm #21617Boom! Called it.
;)I remember the days of Koichi saying “Right, from now on, I’ll put up 1 – 2 lessons a week, this is my new goal :3″ and “Right, from now on, I’ll do 1 or 2 new kanji a day, this is my new goal :3 :3″. I always thought it was funny how badly the goals failed and how quickly they were ditched, even though I wanted that new content :P I remember a time when he also said “New dashboard video every week! :D” and “5 Tofugu videos every week! :D :D”. Then there was also the times when it played out like this: “New lesson should be up by next week guys! :D” *next week* “Lesson should be up by midweek guys and maybe another on Friday! :D” *Wednesday* “Running a little behind; only one new lesson, definitely on Friday” *Friday* “New lesson NEXT week, guys, sorry! :D” (this one actually happened a heck of a lot, now that I think about it haha).
I’d say one lesson a week is reasonable, ESPECIALLY since they’re now onto the sorter “mini-lessons”. I know they take a while to write, but one a week seems decent figure for people actually trying to learn. Hell, if I have some free time, *I’ll* try writing a lesson, see how long it takes :P

I’ll just say that it isn’t our problem and this issue is not new. If you don’t want help it’s fine by me but please don’t answer when we say it’s not enough by : it’s always like that, you want more, I give more and you ask more 2 months later, because even if it’s actually more, it’s not by much and it really doesn’t feel like that.
It’s not enough, you can’t do more alone, that’s sad, it’s life.November 29, 2011 at 8:41 pm #21623i want to post images.
this.
