Sup Guys,
Quick one that I’ve been putting some thought into. I wanted to get everyone’s input on what they use for listening practice. Japanese Radio/TV – Anime – Youtube
Firstly, I wandered if anyone could point me in the direction of some interviews/relaxed conversation between men / interviews with guys etc.. I seem to come across a lot of Japanese women on Youtube, but.. Being a guy, I’d rather talk like a guy and be able to mimic them than having to just repeat/shadow a woman’s speech.. Good example: http://youtu.be/Jo-lKpepEVU – 2.00 mins in.
ANYWAY, Post up your examples. I’d be interested to see what people use..
(If i get 20 reply’s of ‘Naruto’ I’ll shoot myself in the face with a 12 bore and let you all watch).
April 3, 2012 at 1:11 pm #28850Well recently I finished Yakuza 2 (or should I say Like a Dragon) and I’m currently on 3 with 4 on the way to me, so that’s my main ‘practice’ right now. There seems to be a ton of slang being used but I can pick apart a lot of the polite conversation at least. Otherwise I usually leave Japanese radio on the in the background, preferably talk radio. TuneIn is really good for that stuff.
I also get free practice in the sense that I see my girlfriend and her sister often, I pick up a lot from them, mostly just when to use certain phrases/words which is really helpful.

April 3, 2012 at 1:46 pm #28857huh.. Tunein.. Sweet, never even heard of it! Kewl.. Just gonna leave that on for the next hour or so then..
See.. Japanese girlfriend would be all good.. you’d think with all the language school’s here in brighton it wouldn’t be that hard to find natives.. but.. it’s effort.. So much so I’ve actually managed to find a Japanese Teacher (a native) which I’m going to have to pay to converse with.. meh, at least it’s something ha!April 3, 2012 at 2:14 pm #28858
AnonymousWatching slice of life anime definitely helps me learn more Japanese when it comes to sounding fluent.
The characters in these kinds of anime often say something that sounds intellectually fluent! :)
For example:
そんなことわからない
もうたくさんだ!
あついあつい! (used when two lovers are quarreling)
でしょうね。
そうだよね。
おまえさん
すげえ(すごい slang)
うるさいんだけど。
こい – come! (I think this is dialect)April 3, 2012 at 2:27 pm #28860こい = imperative form of 来る. It’s an irregular verb, so it has some weird conjugations.
Anyway, I need to practice my listening more. It was already my weakest area, but I’ve barely done any listening since last December…
April 3, 2012 at 2:37 pm #28861There is the book/DVD Living Japanese which has interviews with Japanese people from different walks of life (age, occupation and so on) answering questions on a bunch of topics. It’s unscripted so it’s very natural. The book is essentially transcriptions of the interviews with some additional notes and vocabulary.

I don’t live too far from you. I’m in West Sussex. Been to Brighton a few times though as one of my sisters lives there.

Never actually watched it, but there you go, 20 responses of “Naruto”.
April 3, 2012 at 6:55 pm #28871Never actually considered this but I’ve just easily found over 50 hours of audio that I want to listen. This all lies with オールナイトニッポンという夜遅いラジオ番組 ふーーーーーーーーー
April 3, 2012 at 7:34 pm #28872@isocracy well if you do meet a native Japanese girl just make sure if you are interested it’s for genuine reasons, if you can ask yourself if you’d still be interested regardless of nationality then it’s all good :) if you’ve ever read the gaijinpot forums there’s some vile people out there when it comes to hunting Japanese girls down, lots of extremely shady people in that place.

April 4, 2012 at 12:18 pm #28893@kyle Thats look’s like a decent investment. As it has a full transcript it would be good to see how people differ their pronunciations of certain words. Then again for now: https://www.erin.ne.jp/en/ + Japanese Radio are probably more in my skill scope until finishing Textfugu
@Kanjiman Lived here for a couple of years.. I’m right in the center so it’s a little distracting.. expensive as hell, but really pleasant and full of nice hippies and shit.
Erm.. Start a thread when you next come over, would be good to discuss Japanese learning with someone.@Yggbert 助平じゃない!I’m only looking for Japanese people to converse with, gender doesn’t really bother me. I’d prefer men as then I can actually learn to talk like a guy.. I don’t quite understand when people learn a language specifically to hit on their native women.. Attraction usually comes from a lack of verbal communication in my experience (like ‘em deaf and mute)…..
AKB48.. Really? Can someone explain Idols to me.. This is one aspect of culture I struggle to wrap my head round.. But then, I don’t quite understand Royalist’s here in England either.
@Mister I can’t say i’ve ever watched it either. The long serials kind of put me off.. After forcing my way through DBZ and Gundam Wing as a kid.. I’m done with 200000000 episode stories. Give me 25 episodes and then kill everyone off…… boom….

I always get everything from H!O so whether it comes out or not depends on the uploader who’s usually putting this stuff up though usually new episode should come up today or tommorow. Also you might have a delay in downloading torrents if your ratio is not up to par. Mine is like 3.52/1 LOL
