Herro! What do you think about the latest member’s dashboard video? Give this technique a try and let us know how it affects you. What modifications would you make? What similar things have worked for you?
May 23, 2011 at 4:33 pm #11069Cool, liking these. I’ve actually got my Japanese final (日本語の期末試験)tomorrow. So I’m going to try this with studying, because I really try to get the best marks I can, and I felt great after getting good marks on my midterm.
May 23, 2011 at 4:59 pm #11079OT, but… Sheepy – Good luck with your final!!
May 24, 2011 at 12:09 am #11184Quoting the video, “This is your 2nd dashboard video”. I must’ve missed the first one, so I looked around on the dashboard, then looked around in the forums, and couldn’t find it. Is there some kind of video news feed, or like a single place that the dashboard videos will be kept? Or am I just overlooking the first one?
May 24, 2011 at 5:01 pm #11273^ No the first dashboard video was really just introducing dashboard videos. So I wouldn’t say you missed much.
@Koichi – I loved this dashboard video, keep them coming man!
I try this technique all the time, and it’s really one of the things that makes me want to study. I know that after I learn something new, I’m that much closer to mastering Japanese.
Thanks for the video.

May 25, 2011 at 7:43 am #11322I’m really enjoying these videos and tips for learning and studying! They are a very helpful! どうもありがとうございます、こいちせんせい!
May 25, 2011 at 11:46 am #11335I definitely understand how effective this tip can be. When I do a project last minute I always chant to myself “You’re going to be so relieved when you done!” or “You will feel so relaxed!” or something like that. It definitely helps!
Another thing you could do – possibly in conjunction with Koichi’s tip – is give yourself a reward whenever you finish a task you don’t want to do. While working last minute on projects, since I tend to stay up late finishing them I tell myself “Once you are done you can sleep!”. It always keeps me going.
Lastly, another thing you could use in conjunction with either or both tips is “time-boxing“. With time-boxing you can have many small victories instead of just one big victory so the task doesn’t feel too long or too boring.
May 25, 2011 at 12:51 pm #11337I really like time boxing as well. It helps so much with an SRS! And with cleaning the house. ;)
May 26, 2011 at 11:59 pm #11507You always give great tips. After listening to this I realized I already do this when it comes to cleaning my house. I always think of how nice and relaxing it is going to feel with a clean house when I start cleaning it. I get a squirt of good feeling juice in my brain before I start to get me going. I should have thought of using this on my Japanese. Well thanks for pointing it out. I am going to try this NOW! (mmmm squirting good feeling juices in my brain…)
May 28, 2011 at 1:18 am #11593^
Lemon is the best “good feeling juice” to squirt in your brain. Try it and tell me I’m wrong!
May 31, 2011 at 10:40 am #11709This is the same kind of thinking game developers use when making rpgs. At their core, they’re really not very fun, but flash it up with colors, music, and level-ups, and you’ll gladly fight the same enemy 300 times to get a rare item drop. Now I just need to start thinking of kanji as exp, and each rtk chapter as a level-up.
May 31, 2011 at 3:29 pm #11756This week’s video…? どこですか。
May 31, 2011 at 6:21 pm #11761So late! You’re fired!
June 9, 2011 at 3:47 pm #12391“Dash wedding”, “Rockman Dash” the ‘watch next’ video clips that You Tube suggests after viewing the Dashboard Video. (I didn’t watch.)
June 9, 2011 at 5:05 pm #12395Another week, another missed video.
Knew it was too good to be true… :P
