Hello TextFugu!
I made it through Tofugu’s Ultimate Guide to Hiragana and was so impressed I figured I’d check out TextFugu and Wankikani. Made it through the first season here and really enjoyed it, so I made the upgrade to lifetime member. So far I must say this has been my favorite Japanese resource, although I’m fairly new to all of this. I had previously purchased some kana text books and found it a little daunting, but Koichi makes everything so much easier.
Anyways, I’m moving to Japan in March and can’t wait to try out my new language skills! I was there for a week this past June and felt like a helpless idiot not being able to communicate.

Thanks! My wife’s work will take us there for the next three years. We will be about an hour south of Tokyo. I figured 3 years is long enough that I have to at least try and learn some Japanese while I’m over there. I’m hoping to get some work teaching English once I get my TEFL certification. I figured knowing some Japanese would only help with that too.
An hour’s drive or an hour by shinkansen? Because those are very different distances. =P
So, we’re talking Yokosuka or Kamakura? That sort of area?

This place is a wasteland :(Joel – Yup, I’ll be living in the Yokosuka area. A little over an hour by JR line from what I recall from my trip in June and supposedly about 45 mins by the Keikyu express train.
