Hello,
I was looking on the internet for the right kanji for mushroom.
I came up with either 茸 or 菌 or 蕈. It seems the first one is more used?? But is this true? Jisho.com says the common word for mushroom is キノコ. Does this mean that the kanji for mushroom isn’t used nowadays?
And it also seems that they all have the same kun’yomi; either たけ or きのこ。
Seems like take should be correct, as in shiitake. But what about kinoko? And can be kinoko translated as child of tree or is that just my ridiculous amount if imagination?

キノコ means generic mushroom’ like when you say “I want mushrooms on my pizza.” It doesn’t specify a type. I’ve only ever seen it written with katakana.
When in words (like shiitake), it is pronounced タケ and the words are usually written in katakana.
None of the kanji seem to be used too often. 菌 is used in 菌類 which means “fungus”.
