So, I kind of skipped my self introduction when I actually realized, “oh there’s a textfugu board?!” and freaked out. I am born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, and no, I’m not the infamous majority, or a Mormon; I doubt that would matter anyways, right guys? (right? ._.) I am going to be a sophomore in high school this coming year and I plan to study abroad in Japan my senior year, or in the summer, depending on if I graduate early or not.
I don’t remember when I really got into Japanese culture but, ever since I was young(er) I loved Japan and thought it was the coolest place on the planet. Luckily, my family loves to travel. So when it came summer time it was time for our annual international trip. They always remembered me wanting to go to Japan for like my whole life, so they surprised me with a trip there. At the time I was twelve, so I didn’t really have the mind power or motivation to learn Japanese, if any, even before leaving to go there. We went on a tour from “Samurai Tours”, and if you look on the website at the guides, we got this really nice Japanese guy who goes by the name of Charlie.
The trip only consisted of my family and one other guy, so the it was more of a personal experience and we got to ask Charlie a lot about Japan. We went to many places like, Kamakura(I think that’s how it is spelled), Akihabara, somewhere around Fukuoka I believe, the fish market, and many, many more, I can’t remember. It was especially cool because of where we stayed; Asakusa, literally around thirty steps away from the market, or Bazaar. It was a nice Ryokan style hotel with free “American” and Japanese breakfast of your choosing the night before; I was the only one in my family that ate the Japanese breakfast everyday, for I love Japanese, it’s my favorite.
So anyways, getting to the point; that trip was the best of over 12 different countries my family and I have been to. I can’t find a single thing to complain about, well it was maybe a little hot. My life dream at the time was to go there, and it was everything I expected and more, so I plan to go back one day. I would really like to live there for however long I would be able to. I plan on going to college and trying to get a degree or two and make my way over there. Beforehand, though, I would still like to study abroad and get better at Japanese.

So, that is why I am here at Textfugu. I had loved watching Koichi and Hashi on Tofugu from almost the beginning, then when I had the money and actually wanted to learn Japanese, I went for it and got it. One of the best decisions ever, I have learned a good amount in a short time with Texfugu and Lang-8 and hope to get pretty good one day. I haven’t had much time recently but I plan to be a more active member here in the summer.
