It finally happened! After living in Japan for 3 years, I have finally made it on TV! Back when I first came here, it was kind of a joke that I never thought would come true. But finally, I made it to a local program that is broadcast throughout Hokkaido. The program is called どさんこワイド. どさんこ means a native from Hokkaido.
Anyways, we did the filming on Tuesday and it was aired yesterday (Thursday). One of my students recorded it and gave me a DVD copy and I uploaded it for everyone to enjoy!

Be kind ;) It was my first time doing a TV program, let alone in Japanese!
June 22, 2012 at 7:40 am #32211I’m still a beginner at learning Japanese so I didn’t understand much, but I think you did pretty well. Good on you for taking up the opportunity. How was it? Were you feeling nervous? Excicted?
June 22, 2012 at 7:48 am #32212Actually, since it wasn’t live, I wasn’t too nervous during the filming. But when I was watching it, I was with all of my Japanese co-workers. So I was much more nervous then. I hadn’t seen the final edited version, so I didn’t know what to expect either. And I really am my own worst critic so.. there’s that too…
I am thinking of adding Japanese/English subtitles in the future, but too tired to do it tonight..
June 22, 2012 at 8:00 am #32213Congrats and I hope you get more opportunities coming your way. If you do add subtitles let me know as I’d like to know what you said in Japanese. Cheers.

Keep trying your best!
June 22, 2012 at 12:57 pm #32229すごいですね
Kind of amused at the Austin Powers theme playing constantly in the background. =P
On a side note, I don’t really think that “I’m wild” and “I’m crazy” are really the same thing…
June 22, 2012 at 2:36 pm #32238What was it like shooting on the moon?
Just kidding man, great job! Looking sharp in that suit, too.
June 22, 2012 at 3:46 pm #32240Nice ;)
June 22, 2012 at 4:05 pm #32245Thanks for the responses =D
Even though I was the English speaker, it was the producer of the show who came up with the translation… go figure… They filmed those shots on the streets with the regular Japanese people trying to translate it and told em it means ‘I’m wild!’, so I did the best I could with what I had.
June 22, 2012 at 4:13 pm #32247Congratulations, that’s brilliant! Can’t wait to watch it.
You mention how the Japanese producer did the translation – that sort of thing has always bewildered me, how the Japanese don’t get more native English speakers to do, or at least help with, their translation to English.
It’s cool in one sense (e.g. it produces this – http://www.engrish.com), but I always think a lot of these mistranslations could be easily avoided, with a little gaijin collaboration.
Any thoughts/comments on this?June 23, 2012 at 8:00 am #32272
